Bonnie Miller,
RDH, BS is
the staff Registered Dental Hygienist at the Ryan Veterinary
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. With 19 years experience
in her role at the university, she is a guest lecturer in the
core dental course and teaches basic dentistry in the form
of rounds and wet labs to the students rotating through the
Dental and Oral Surgery service. She is active in clinical
dental cases as well as research projects. As a lecturer
in the Harcum College veterinary technician program she also
teaches dental wet labs to the technician students.
Bonnie has extensive national lecturing experience,
presenting at many national veterinary conferences such as
the National Annual Veterinary Dental Forum, the North American
Veterinary Conference, and many state and local veterinary organization
conferences. She has authored and co-authored articles and text-book chapters. Bonnie
serves as an independent consultant to companies within
the veterinary dental industry and performs dental product
research for companies wishing to promote oral health via their
products.
She is a member of the American Veterinary
Dental Society, and, in 1996 was recognized by the AVDC-AVDS
National Veterinary Dental Forum for her contributions
to the field of veterinary dentistry. She
is also a member of the American Dental Hygienists Association
and began her career working in “human” periodontal
practices.
She earned her Certificate of Proficiency in Dental Hygiene
from the University of Pennsylvania and her BS degree in
dental hygiene from Thomas Jefferson University.

Jodi Kristel,
CVT VTS (Dentistry)
is the staff certified Veterinary Technician Specialist in
Dentistry at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania. Jodi
graduated from Olds College, Alberta, Canada in 1999, and then
successfully completed the Veterinary Technician Internship program
at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Jodi began
her career at the University of Pennsylvania in 2002, and, in
June of 2006, she became a credentialed member of the first class
of graduates of the NAVTA Veterinary Technician Specialty
in Dentistry.
With 7 years experience at the Veterinary
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Jodi is involved
in teaching basic dentistry in the form of rounds and wet labs
to the students rotating through the Dental and Oral Surgery
Service. She is involved in
clinical dental cases as well as research projects.
Jodi is a guest lecturer at Harcum College and Manor
College's Veterinary Technician Programs. She
also has national lecturing experience presenting at the AVDC-AVDS
annual dental forum.
John R. Lewis, VMD, FAVD, Dipl. AVDC
is an Assistant Professor of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. He graduated from UPENN in 1997 and spent 5 years in general practice in Clayton, NC prior to returning for a residency in dentistry and oral surgery. Dr. Lewis became a fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry during his residency, and was awarded the AVDC Peter Emily Outstanding Candidate Award in October of 2004. After completion of his residency, Dr. Lewis successfully completed the examination process to become a diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College.
His research interests include histological evaluation of feline teeth in an attempt to elucidate the etiology of feline tooth resorption. Also, he is conducting clinical trials evaluating a new treatment for cats affected by oral squamous cell carcinoma and lymph node drainage patterns in dogs with oral melanoma. Dr. Lewis’ clinical interests include oral surgical oncology, maxillofacial fracture repair, and lasers in oral surgery and dentistry. Dr. Lewis became an associate director of the Mari Lowe Center for Comparative Oncology Research in 2006.

Donna Sisak, CVT, VTS (Anesthesia)
is a 1991 graduate of Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, PA. During her 23 years in the veterinary profession she has worked in small animal hospitals throughout Pennsylvania and as of 1991 has worked in the nursing department (general and intensive care) at the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1995 she transferred to the anesthesia department of MJR-VHUP where she has been performing clinical anesthesia and overseeing veterinary students and veterinary nursing students during their anesthesia training. Since 1995, Donna has been the Anesthesia Department Supervisor of the Harcum College students during their two week long anesthesia rotation at MJR-VHUP. She has been the recipient of the Veterinary Teaching Award for five consecutive years. In addition to her teaching responsibilities at MJR-VHUP, she has taught the anesthesia portion of the pharmacology class at Harcum College from 2000 - Spring 2008.
In 2006, Donna became a credentialed member of the Academy of Veterinary Anesthetists by passing the nationwide exam for the NAVTA specialty of Anesthesia.
In March, 2008, Donna will pursue her professional interests in the Pacific Northwest as she becomes a member of the team at Seattle Veterinary Specialists in Kirkland, WA. where she will continue her focus on anesthesia. Donnas’ lecture experience includes IVECCS, AAHA, NJVMA, and the Penn Conference. Donna's professional interests include teaching, pain management, sedation protocols, and respiratory physiology and disorders.
